Native American Heritage Month

CAPS is a proud supporter of Native American Heritage Month. CAPS will display information about this heritage month in our waiting room to raise awareness about Native American history and current issues impacting this community. The theme for this year’s heritage month is "Celebrating Tribal Nations: America's Great Partners".

Publications by CAPS Staff

Dr. Chantelle Pseekos is our Multicultural Postdoctoral Fellow. This year, Dr. Pseekos provides clinical and outreach services: individual and group psychotherapy; assessment; campus and community consultation; outreach; crisis intervention; supervision; training; and research. An emphasis of this fellowship is on co-leading a multi-cultural seminar for predoctoral interns, designing and implementing psychological interventions for a targeted population on campus, and participating in the design and execution of the annual Diversity Institute. Dr. Pseekos is the CAPS liaison to several campus offices that are equally committed to diverse populations: Council of Ethnic Organizations, Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual Alliance (GLOBAL), International Student & Scholar Services Office (ISSSO) and the Language and Culture Center (LCC). Cougar Trading Cards

CAPS will be giving away 2 Cougar Trading Cards to Food for Thought Workshop attendees (http://www.caps.uh.edu/outreach-food.aspx). UH students who collect all 55 different cards from events around campus can be awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Cougar Ally Diversity Training

CAPS is one of the proud sponsors of the next Cougar Ally Diversity Training on Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) topics. The next training seminars will take place on September 24, 2009 and November 10, 2009, 12:45pm to 4pm at MD Anderson Library, Room 306. Voting

CAPS is joining UH in the effort to encourage students to register to vote. Two CAPS staff members will be at the Cougar Resource Fair on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the UC to register to vote! Election Day is November 3, 2009 and Early Voting is October 19, 2009 to October 30, 2009. The UH Student Government Association (SGA) is providing a free shuttle service to the Palm Center to assist registered Harris County voters who wish to vote early in person. The free shuttles will leave the campus from the front of the University Center (UC) and run to the Palm Center and back Tuesday through Thursday, October 27 -29, 2009. The free shuttle service will operate from 11am to 2pm all three days of the SGA sponsored program.
