Earthquake in Haiti

In light of the recent event in Haiti, CAPS would like to offer support to UH students, faculty and staff from Haiti or others who may have loved ones who reside in Haiti and are impacted by the recent earthquake. CAPS services are available to individuals who may be experiencing grief, anxiety and/or other emotional reactions. If you are interested in counseling or assessment services, simply call CAPS at (713)743-5454 to arrange a free intake appointment.

Celebrating African American Heritage Month

February is African American History Month and the 2010 African American History Month Theme is The History of Black Economic Empowerment. CAPS is a proud supporter of African American History Month and CAPS will display information about this history month in our waiting room to raise awareness about African American history and current issues impacting this community. Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, became the first black president in the history of the United States on Jan. 20, 2009. Publications by CAPS Staff

Dr. Chantelle Pseekos is our Multicultural Postdoctoral Fellow. This year, Dr. Pseekos provides clinical and outreach services: individual and group psychotherapy; assessment; campus and community consultation; outreach; crisis intervention; supervision; training; and research. An emphasis of this fellowship is on co-leading a multi-cultural seminar for predoctoral interns, designing and implementing psychological interventions for a targeted population on campus, and participating in the design and execution of the annual Diversity Institute. Dr. Pseekos is the CAPS liaison to several campus offices that are equally committed to diverse populations: Council of Ethnic Organizations, Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual Alliance (GLOBAL), International Student & Scholar Services Office (ISSSO) and the Language and Culture Center (LCC). Cougar Trading Cards
